- Tour Plan :
Day 1: Arrival in Fes – Riad Welcome
TheFes 10 Days Tour will start with your personal and warm welcome at Fes-Saïss Airport (FEZ). Your professional driver-guide will instantly move you to your gorgeous and traditional Riad in the historic medina where you can easily settle down and take a break. In the evening, however, you must take a short, oriented walk around Bab Boujloud (the Blue Gate), and have your first experience of the ancient atmosphere of Fes. The calm music of the busy city about to go to sleep offers a soothing introduction to your Trips In Morocco.
Day 2: Fes – Full Day Guided Cultural Immersion
The second day is completely spent in the discovery of Fes under the guidance of a certified local guide. The first thing to do is to visit the Al-Qarawiyyin, the oldest university in the world still in operation. Then there is the Chouara Tannery with its smattering of colors, where the old art of leather dyeing has still not entirely died out–the odor is very unpleasant, but the sight–indeed, the sight–is indelible. You then visit a gorgeous Bou Inania Madrasa and the historic Mellah (Jewish Quarter). On the verge of determining the end, your guide brings you to a high-rise where you can view the whole Fes el-Bali medina. This immersion into the Moroccan culture is the ideal start of your Fes 10 Days Tour.
Fes can best be seen in its traditional crafts of artisans; it is hypnotic to see the metalworkers at the Nejjarine Fountain. One of the travellers mentioned that the only way they could get a clear picture of the sheer scale and ancientness of the medina is by looking at it with their eyes as they flew above it.
Day 3: Fes – Volubilis – Meknes – Rabat (Imperial History)
We leave Fes and enter into Imperial and Roman history. First we take a drive to the breathtaking Roman ruins of Volubilis where you walk amidst the preserved mosaics and columns and can easily imagine how life was back in Mauritania of the ancient times. Then we would go to the Imperial city of Meknes. This is where you are in awe of the grand Bab Mansour gate and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail who was the mighty founder of Meknes. But at last one arrives at Rabat the contemporary capital of Morocco. We visit the legendary Hassan Tower and Mausoleum of Mohammed V and observe the difference between ancient empires and new governments. We stay overnight in a Rabati hotel.
It is almost as if the reader can feel the presence of Roman colonists who used to walk through the Decumanus Maximus in Volubilis. The size and architectural grandeur of Bab Mansour at Meknes is simply awestrucking because it is a display of Imperial authority.
Day 4: Rabat – Casablanca – Marrakech (Coastal Grandeur)
We keep on the Imperial city tour, down the Atlantic coast. In the first place, we visit the beautiful Kasbah of the Udayas in Rabat, the blue-and-white fort which stands on the ocean. We then drive to the Moroccan economic center of Casablanca. It is here that you will tour the grandiosity of the Hassan II Mosque, which is indeed one of the largest mosques in the world, and was built upon a point that was jutting on the sea- the size of it is truly incredible. After this we head inland to the colorful city of Marrakech. We enter our Riad, prepared to the atmosphere of the square of the Jemaa el-Fnaa. The difference between the modernity of Casablanca and the antiquity of Marrakech is clear.
Moreover, you can never get enough of the waves beating the bottom of the Hassan II Mosque; it seems like the sea is attempting to reclaim the territory. The transition to energy that occurs when you are coming in to Marrakech Between the peaceful coast to the busy red city are instant and thrilling.
Day 5: Marrakech – Full Day Guided Exploration
The fifth day will be spent in the Marrakech history and culture tour with a guide. You begin with the luxurious Bahia Palace with its complex Islamic and Andalusian buildings and gorgeous courtyards. Then we go to the ancient Saadian Tombs and the peaceful Koutoubia Mosque (outside). Then you go off into the mazes of the souks to exercise the art of bargaining over spices or leather work. Lastly, you appreciate the silence of the beauty of the Jardin Majorelle, which is renowned with the colourful cobalt buildings and exotic vegetation. This day out is the ideal complement to the Imperial city tour of your Fes 10 Days Tour.
There is not one time that I walk into the Bahia Palace that I do not imagine how the artisans over the years took their time in making those cedarwood ceilings and zellij mosaics- the exquisiteness is amazing. The Majorelle Garden is an idyllic way out of the bustling medina, with its cool and silent refuge.
Day 6: Marrakech – Ait Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley
The newly developed Imperial cities have been replaced by the amazing mountain and desert sceneries. We start by traversing the great High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m) where we make stops to view the bottomless panoramic scenery. Then, we proceed to another classical UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Benhaddou, the grand, old ksar, which has been used as the setting of numerous movies. After this, we make a short stop in Ouarzazate, the film capital. We proceed to the beautiful Rose Valley then we rest in a lovely guesthouse in the Dades Valley to have dinner and night, marking the beginning of the Fes Desert Tours part of your tour.
It is amazing when you pass through the Tizi n Tichka Pass and the immense, ochre view on the other side of the hill is before you. A passenger who was travelling there told me that Ait Benhaddou was like going back a millennium in time- it is so well conserved and so dramatic.
Day 7: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Merzouga Sahara
It is a geological marvel day and a day of getting to the sand dunes. First of all, we visit the Dades Valley known by its distinctive Monkey Fingers rock formation. Then we go to the marvelous Todra Gorges. You will most certainly stroll along the riverbed between the towering, sheer 300 meters cliffs–the air in it is cool and the silence is vast. After a local lunch, we proceed with the driving through pre-desert landscape passing by Rissani. And lastly, we are in Merzouga, the entrance to the huge Erg Chebbi dunes. Your desert adventure starts with a camel ride into the desert during the sunset, dinner and a night under the stars in a luxurious tent.
I would always urge the travelers to stop at the quietness of Todra Gorge and just stand and stare up, the sheer verticality is immense. It is indeed the moment of arrival when you see the interminable golden sand of Erg Chebbi.
Day 8: Merzouga – Desert Exploration, Nomads, and Gnawa Music
This Fes 10 Days Tour gives one time to explore the desert in depth. After an amazing sunrise and breakfast, we spend the morning of our trip in exploring the hidden parts of the desert on 4×4. We begin by travelling to the village of Khamlia where we hear the Gnawa music, an ancient practice that is full of deep soulful rhythms. Then we are off-roaded to the home of an authentic nomadic family, where they make mint tea in their hand weaved tent, and we get to know their tough nomadic life – a real cultural experience. We visit finally the seasonal Lake Sirji and the ancient Mfis mines. You spend a second, luxurious night in a good hotel in the town, close to the dunes.
The hypnotic rhythm of the Gnawa drums in the dry desert is a soundscape that will really stick in your mind even after you have gone. This is a great day out in the region which makes this a high end Desert Tour Morocco.
Day 9: Merzouga – Midelt – Azrou – Fes (Return)
This is the long but picturesque journey back north, to-day. We start with driving through the ancient town of Erfoud which was rich in fossils. We will then proceed to the gorgeous Ziz Valley where we will have one last look of the oasis view. Next we pass the Middle Atlas mountains with another stop at the Azrou Cedar Forest. At last we pass through Ifrane. It is late in the afternoon and we are in the old Imperial town of Fes. You re-enter your luxurious Riad, where you have a final dinner, and take a look back at the marvelous diversity of scenery that you have seen during the last nine days.
A tourist wrote about the back trip as a geological unwind of awe-inspiring scenes, of the sand dunes, down to the cedar trees, high in the trees. This is a smooth circle that guarantees that your 10 Days Tour around Fes is as exploratory as possible and convenient.
