Most day trips are organized tours using air-conditioned minibusses or 4x4s. You will typically be picked up near Jemaa el-Fnaa square or directly from your hotel/riad in the morning and dropped back off in the evening. Private taxis can also be hired for more flexibility, but negotiated rates vary.

Generally, yes. Essaouira is very family-friendly with its beach and easy-to-navigate medina. The Ourika Valley is also good, though some hiking parts might require carrying smaller toddlers. Ouzoud Waterfalls involves many steps to get to the bottom, so it can be tiring for young kids or anyone with mobility issues.

The most important item is comfortable, sturdy walking shoes, especially for the mountains or waterfalls. You should also bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a bottle of water, and some cash (dirhams) for lunch, tips for local guides, or souvenirs. If heading to the Atlas Mountains outside of summer, bring a warm layer as temperatures drop at altitude.

Plan for a full day. Most tours depart between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM and return to Marrakech between 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM, depending on the destination and traffic. The drive times can range from 1 hour (Ourika) to 3 hours (Essaouira or Ouzoud) each way.
